Our team has been closely monitoring the impact of Hurricane Odile on Los Cabos and the rest of Baja California Sur. Odile struck Cabo San Lucas the night of September 14, 2014, bringing strong wind, rain and powerful surf. The recovery efforts are well under way in Los Cabos, with power restored, Mexican governmental agencies on the ground providing local support, many resorts and villas deep into the cleanup phase and reports of many restaurants, shops and grocery stores reopening. Banks have reopened as well. All signs are promising for a rapid recovery. Phone, cell and internet service has been restored. As tourism lies at the heart of the Los Cabos economy, we’re confident that the destination will be fully operational in the coming weeks and months.

In addition, we have been assessing the damage and requirements to restore our resort. We have been in constant contact with local officials to obtain updates on the wider community and on the airport. This was the largest hurricane to hit the area since 1967 and the impact has been significant. It is therefore taking time to fully confirm a re-opening date although we are making every effort to be open in time for the December holidays. At this time the resort is closed and we are in the process of rescheduling and cancelling bookings with arrivals between now and December 15, 2014.

Pueblo Bonito Resorts – Pueblo Bonito Pacifica, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, Pueblo Bonito Rose
UPDATE 9/29/14 – The Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) official report is projected to open again for commercial flights by October 8th. Because of this, October 8th will also be the first day that we will start receiving guests at our Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, Pueblo Bonito Rosé and Pueblo Bonito Pacifica resorts. In order to ensure the complete satisfaction of our mutual clients during the month of October, the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Resort & Spa will reopen on October 13, 2014.
UPDATE 9/18/14 – We are working hard to clean up debris and to restore operations, and if the destination is ready, our resorts will be ready to receive guests again on October 1st. We would update you on the status of the evacuation process. As previously mentioned, all of the guests at our Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Resort were to be transferred to the Los Cabos International Airport for evacuation yesterday. We are happy to report that everything went smoothly and the hotel has been successfully evacuated. Today, our Pueblo Bonito Rosé and Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos guests are being evacuated, as well as some of the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach guests, who are scheduled to fly out today and tomorrow. As to the status of our resorts, we would like to assure you that our dedicated team members are working hard to clean up and repair the damaged areas. And finally, we would like to inform you that engineers and workers from the Federal Electric Commission have arrived in Cabo and they are working on reestablishing the electrical power and access to drinking water. The electricity and running water at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and Pacifica Resorts have already been reestablished. Although we have backup generators and a water plant that have enabled us to provide electricity and water to guests at our resorts during these days, there is still a lack of power and drinking water in the destination itself. We are hopeful that the power will be restored soon, and will keep you updated as things progress.
We are fortunate that Pueblo Bonito Pacifica is in very good condition after the storm, and we anticipate a quick cleanup. As we have previously mentioned, our resorts did not suffer any major damages, only cosmetic damages. At Pacifica, the lobby area, restaurants and bars are all intact. The pool was not damaged; the removal of sand is the only work it will require. There is also cleanup work that needs to be done on other parts of the hotel grounds, as well as in some of the rooms, but our dedicated team is working industriously to take care of all related issues. To be sure, hurricanes make for a lot of work, but our team is confident that the resort will be ready to receive guests starting October 1st.
UPDATE: 9/17/14 – We are happy to inform you that cell phone service has been restored in the destination and you should be able to reach your loved ones on their mobile phones. Additionally, we now have WIFI service at Sunset Beach, so guests there will be able to access their emails on their devices. We do not have confirmation about the WIFI service at our other resorts yet, but we will keep you informed.
Once again, thank you so much for all of your support. We are moved by all the warm words and offers for help we have received. We would like to reiterate that all of the guests and employees at our hotels are doing well. Thanks to our backup generators and to our company’s water plant, we have been able to provide food and water to everyone, as well as provide power at all Pueblo Bonito resorts. We would also like to repeat the fact that there was no structural damage at the resorts; only cosmetic damages and a substantial accumulation of debris.
The evacuation process has been scheduled as follows: all guests at Pueblo Bonito Pacifica are being evacuated today. Tomorrow another 700 guests will be evacuated, all from Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos (Blanco) and Pueblo Bonito Rosé. Guests at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach will be evacuated over the course of two days: Thursday and Friday.
Evacuees will be flying to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tijuana and Mazatlan so that they can get connecting flights from those cities to return home.
Cell phone service was restored to the destination today, and there is now WIFI service at our Pacifica and Sunset Beach resorts. Please try to contact with your loved ones via these methods of communication.
If everything goes well for the destination, all of our resorts, including will be ready to receive guests starting October 1st

UPDATE: 9/16/14 – Hello all! We want to let you know that we are working very hard to determine a time frame as to when our Cabo San Lucas hotels will be fully operational again. At this point, however, it is too soon to officially establish this time frame. For those of you who have reservations for this week, we recommend you that reschedule your stay for later dates. Please make changes to your reservation by contacting the channel through which the reservation was booked. If you have reservations for September 22nd or after, please stay tuned and we will continue to update you through posts on this page.
Many of you have noticed that you have not able to reach anyone in the destination today. Unfortunately, the telephone and WIFI services have been down throughout Cabo today, but we would like to assure you that all of our guests are safe and sound, and all are being provided with food.
Regarding the airports, a definite date has not been announced for the Cabo International airport (SJD) to reopen, but current advice from airlines indicate that it may reopen around September 22nd for arrivals. Local news is reporting that, according to the Secretary of Tourism, the airport’s two terminals were damaged but the airport is operable. The smaller Cabo San Lucas airport (CSL or MMSL) is not operable and is reported to be closed until October 10th.
In the meantime, the Federal Government of Mexico has announced that there will be an air bridge to evacuate tourists and residents from Los Cabos. The Tourism Ministry has announced that the National Defense ministry, the Mexican Navy, and the Communication & Transport ministry will all be involved in the evacuation process. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
Lastly, for those of you who have shown concern about the locals, we have reports from emergency officials in Baja California that 135 people have been treated for minor injuries from flying glass or falling objects, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries or deaths. We sincerely appreciate your warm words of concern for all of our coworkers and guests, and we thank you for your understanding and your patience as we work to restore our services and operations. Please continue to check here for more updates.

Riu Santa Fe and Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas
9/23/14 – RIU Hotels & Resorts has set reopening dates for its two hotels affected by Hurricane Odile, the storm which struck the Los Cabos region overnight on Sunday, September 14th. Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas Hotel will reopen its doors to guests on October 9th and Riu Santa Fe Hotel will reopen just a week later on October 16th.
9/15/14 – Riu Santa Fe Hotel and Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas Hotel have been strongly impacted by the passing of Hurricane Odile over Cabo San Lucas last night. Fortunately, all of our employees and guests are fine, and we have only suffered some damage to the properties. As a precaution, the authorities of Baja California have decided to cut electrical service, which is in addition to the suspension of the water supply due to the heavy rains. All of this is greatly hindering the efforts of our hotel staff who are working tirelessly and doing as much as possible to accommodate and care for our guests. At the moment, communication with the destination is complicated, but the authorities are already at work reestablishing all services. We appreciate your understanding and will continue to keep you informed. Update Tuesday, 9/16/14 – Communication with Los Cabos is still difficult because the telephone lines are down. We have been in touch with our colleagues, who have told us once again that everyone is fine, and they have given us the following information:
Hotel employees. We have 150 staff at the Hotel Riu Santa Fe and 120 at the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas. Some employees left the premises yesterday to check whether their families were safe, despite the danger involved in travelling at the moment due to the floods. Many of them have returned to the hotels and others, who were not present when the hurricane hit, have joined their colleagues in looking after guests and in cleaning tasks. It is necessary to bear in mind that rooms are dispersed over large areas and that reaching each room is not an easy task.
Food and drink. At present there is both water and food for the hotel guests. With the support of the Civil Protection service, all measures are being taken to re-establish supply over the coming hours and days.
Additional teams on the way: Our Operations, Technical Services, Food and Beverage, Cleaning and general support teams are ready to leave from our hotels in Vallarta, Mazatlán and Guadalajara. They are just waiting for San José Airport to open so they can travel.
RIU is in constant contact with the local authorities and Civil Protection service. They are the experts on the ground, and are working to re-establish normality.
We appreciate your understanding during this difficult time for guests, the destination, the hotels, and all the staff working there.
UPDATE 9/18/14 – RIU Hotels & Resorts would like to inform you that as of this morning, Thursday September 18th, all guests of the RIU hotels impacted by hurricane Odile, both Riu Santa Fe Hotel and Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas Hotel, have been transferred to the airport where there are flights departing to different cities in the country. Given the extraordinary circumstances which this meteorological phenomenon has caused, we are pleased to report that there are no injuries among our guests and employees. In terms of physical damage to the facilities, a group of technicians from the hotel chain are at work in the destination assessing the properties. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Although the regular power supply has been cut off by structural damages caused by the hurricane, the hotel has its own emergency generator along with enough fuel to keep it running normally as long as the situation remains the same. Telephone and internet communication are still not working properly, so you might have difficulty contacting the hotel directly. Today phone lines have been working on-and-off, and we are setting up a plan to allow each guest who has not done it yet, to call to their families. So we kindly ask you, if possible, not to call to the hotel to avoid blocking the lines. You will be contacted by your family/friends in the following hours if you have not been yet. However, we repeat that everyone at the hotel is in good shape, and we will continue to keep you in the loop on any developments that might occur. The hotel is certified by Civil Protection as a shelter, so it complies with all the safety standards required for such events as these. The guests are staying in the guestrooms, which are being kept in good conditions, while they wait until they can be evacuated. The authorities are already working together with hoteliers to set a plan that allows all tourists in the area to be evacuated in an orderly fashion. This plan will be announced by the Civil Protection authorities as soon as it’s ready, and we will keep you informed as soon as this happens. Thanks for your support during these days!
UPDATE: 9/16/14 – After the first 24 hours, there are still problems with power supplies as well as phone lines and internet conections so, unfortunately, it is not possible to talk to the hotel directly in this moment. Despite so, we can confirm that all the guests at the hotel are our priority. They all are safe and being taken care of and we are working hard together with the authorities and suppliers to recover the communications and supplies as soon as possible. At this moment, due to the communication problems, it is difficult to get official updates about the situation. As soon as we have more information about the evacuation plans we will share the news here.

Villa Group – Villa del Arco, Villa la Estancia and Villa del Palmar
10/03/14 – We are happy to report that as of October 1st, all three of our Cabo resorts, Villa del Palmar, Villa del Arco and Villa la Estancia, are functioning at 100%.
Update 9/18/14 – In the aftermath of Hurricane Odile, solid progress is being made every day. Although communication with Cabo in general remains very poor, the government is working to improve the situation. We thank all our members and guests for your patience and understanding as we work with the authorities to get Los Cabos up and running as quickly as possible. All the Los Cabos resorts (Villa del Palmar, Villa del Arco, Villa la Estancia) are in very good condition with no injuries reported. We have electricity (through the generator on the resort), water, and sufficient food supplies for all members and guests at the resort. Our first 300 guests have been transported home through a coordinated effort by the resort and government authorities. Over the next 48 hours all guests will return home. The official information is that the airport will start receiving inbound guest in Cabo on the 27th of this month.
It is a slow but steady process of recovery for city services; the government’s top two priorities are: 1) repair and delivery of electrical service (1,500 federal electric company employees have arrived and a barge has delivered poles, towers, and cable supplies to do this work), which will take 15 days, and 2) restoration of the water supply. The government has shipped self-contained generation plants to re-establish the water supply over the next few days. The infrastructure for water distribution is intact; now it is just an issue of electricity to power the pumps.
UPDATE 9/17/14 – We are happy to announce that our Cabo Resorts, Villa del Palmar, Villa del Arco and Villa la Estancia, suffered very little damage during the recent hurricane. We will keep you posted with any further developments or details as they become available.
9/15/14 – Thank you all for your support and concern for our guests and coworkers in our Cabo Hotels. We are glad to report only minimal damages, and thankfully everyone is ok. Our three Resorts remain a safe environment for everyone, with basic electric power (supplied by our generator) and water on the facilities. One of our restaurants is fully operating and providing all the meals needed. The airport is not functioning and Cabo San Lucas is damaged. However, The worst part is over so there’s no need to worry.
Thank you for your prayers we are ok our hotel has minimum damage. We will back in business in Oct 1st.

Is the airport building ok and roads to San Jose Cabo airport open?
Ercilia
We’re still trying to get a complete picture of the situation at the airport as there have been some conflicting reports of damage, road conditions and reopening of the airport. Current reports indicate that it will remain closed tomorrow as well. Stay tuned here for more info. We’ll update the blog as information becomes available.
charlie
We have resv. for the 15th of next month. Should we look to go somewhere different or do you think a month from now the Riu Palace will be back in operation? – See more at: http://blog.cabovillas.com/?p=2547#comment-96942
Ercilia
Hello Charlie, your best bet would be to contact us directly to discuss your reservation if you booked with us. If you booked through another provider, please contact them to discuss current conditions and possible alternate plans.
Catherine
Any information on Vasa Del Mar, especially phase 2 condos? We have had no word and Hotel is not updating site.
Ercilia
Hello Catherine, as we don’t work directly with Vasa del Mar, we have not yet received an update. However, hopefully somebody here can contribute/comment if they hear anything. Good luck!
Lori Whitesell
Any assessment of the homes in Pedregal? Both bay facing and Pacific side?
Ercilia
Hi Lori, thanks for your message, we’re still receiving reports from our team in Cabo with regard to villas and so far have received some reports of damage while other villas weathered the storm unscathed. Hope to have more detailed information in coming days.
Lori
Thanks. Any estimates when power may be restored? And is the road from the airport to Cabo open?
Robert Trama
Hello Lori, unfortunately we have yet to receive any official estimates on when the power will be restored. However, I did see an update that the government is sending in a team from the mainland to help in the effort to restore power. We will update this blog the moment we get an official update.
Lori Whitesell
Thank you. Any and all info is truly appreciated.

I’m supposed to leave to go on my vacation on the 18th which is this Thursday. How will this storm affect my vacation? Will the riu Santa Fe be up and running or will we be moved to a different resort ??
Ercilia
The current estimate is that the airport will not reopen to international commercial flights until Monday, 9/22. This is of course subject to change. If you booked your reservation through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us ASAP to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. And I have friends at El Ganzo. Please let me know if the staff and hotel are okay
Ercilia
We’re as anxious as you are for a status report from El Ganzo. Will for sure update the blog when we have one. Communication remains tough. Thanks Anselm!
Ercilia
Just posted a brief update from El Ganzo.
Bonnie T.
We were stating at La Marina just behind El Ganzo and although many windows were broken the hotel structurally appeared o.k. I’m sure all employees and guests were fine. The generator was working on and off during and after the hurricane.
Ercilia
Hi Bonnie, thanks so much for your helpful information and post. How is La Marina doing?
randall cunningham
We have a house in Puerto Los Cabos in La Noria neighborhood. This is right next door to the Secrets Puerto Los Cabos resort. Any information on how bad the damage is to the immediate vicinity of the hotel?
We’re hoping to fly down to assess as soon as the airport opens up, but are worried because we heard rumors that at least one house in the neighborhood lost its roof to the winds.
We’ve heard very little news of how the locals have fared through the storm – we’re sending our thoughts to those that were likely to be most seriously affected.
Ercilia
Hello Randall, totally understand the frustration and worry! Unfortunately, communication with the region remains spotty. We are still awaiting a complete picture of conditions at Puerto Los Cabos and La Playita. We will be updating our page continuously as more information becomes available. Best wishes that your house rode out Odile in good shape!
JOANNE OSTROM AND GEORGE ARMSTRONG
NEEDING INFORMATION ON OUR ONSITE MANAGER KELLY TANNER TOLEDO. ALSO ANY INFORMATION ON THE CONDITION OF THE LA MARINA INN. WE ARE LOCATED RIGHT BEHIND EL GANZO HOTEL.
Ercilia
Hi Joanne, hopefully somebody will view your comment here and be able to contribute. While we don’t work directly with the Marina Inn, we have seen reports mentioning damage at the Marina Inn. Please do post here if you hear more so that others looking for this information will find it. Good luck to you in finding more information. Hope that Kelly is safe!
Guillaume BOSSON
Hello,

Hello Guillame, we are still trying to get information from Puerto Los Cabos as well. Please post here when you hear more.
Yvonne
Are there any updates on puerto Los cabos/la playita? We also have a house there and would really lik to know what is going on.

Thank you.
Ercilia
Hello Sandy, will be updating the blog right now with this update from Hacienda Encantada: “We wanted to provide you with an update on the current status at the hotel due to the aftermath of Hurricane Odile. Everyone at the hotel – employees and guests – are all safe. Due to the Hurricane that hit last night, some damage has been reported at the hotel. Our first, and of course immediate priority, is to ensure that all guests and valued employees of Hacienda Encantada remain safe. We will be conducting a full assessment on-site and will continue to keep you all updated in the coming days. Thank you for all of your well wishes and continued thoughts.”
Ercilia
Hi Sandy – a little additional update from the resort just posted above on our blog.

Ercilia
Hello Wendy, current report from the Villa Group of resorts is “We are glad to report only minimal damages, and thankfully everyone is ok. Our three Resorts remain a safe environment for everyone, with basic electric power (supplied by our generator) and water on the facilities.”
Al
How much damage did Villa Pacifica Del Mar get
Ercilia
Hello Al: We’re still getting reports in from our various villas as our staff and the villa owners inspect each property. As it is still very soon after the hurricane, we don’t have a complete picture yet as to the extent of damage. However, we’re happy to report that many of our villas have fared well, from what we’ve seen so far.
Meredith
What is the status of Capella?
We are not due to arrive until the third week of October.
Thank you.
Ercilia
The official word we have heard from Capella at this point remains, “Capella Pedregal is currently completing its assessment on the effects of Hurricane Odile.” We are in touch with resorts as much as possible, but communication is still difficult due to power outages. We will continue to update this blog as much as possible as we hear more details from each property.
Alaska
Any updates on Villa Del Arco?
Ercilia
We are updating the blog right now with an update from the Villa Group, stand by!
Allison
Hi there!
I hope you, your family and fiends are all staying safe and dry. Our hoy that’s and prayers are with everyone down there.
We own a couple homes in Pedregal that you have helped us rent in the past…. I’m wondering if you guys have any info on when you will be telling people it’s okay to start traveling down to Cabo again? We were supposed to be coming next weekend the 26th…. I’m thinking things won’t be ready by then. Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you, Alli
Allison
Typo! I meant to say “our thoughts and prayers are with you…”
Ercilia
Hi Alli, great hearing from you. We’re still assessing the situation (as is the rest of Los Cabos) but we’ll continue to update this page as we know more. Current indications are that the airport is expected to reopen 9/22 – but that is all subject to change. Keep checking here for info!
Ashley
Hello, We’re staying at the Riu Santa Fe mid next month. With the conditions of that hotel and everything else going on, do you suggest we cancel our trip? We were hoping to spend most of our trip pool and beach side, so if those are going to be closed/ are demolished, we might just be canceling. Please let us know your thoughts. Prayers and well wishes to everyone who is there now!! Stay safe!
Ercilia
Hello Ashley, thanks for your prayers! If you booked through us, please contact us directly at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through Riu directly, please contact them for current status. We wil continue to update this page as new information becomes available as to whether Riu guests will need to reschedule.
Katie
Hello, do you have any information on damage at ME Cabo? Thanks!
Ercilia
We’re currently seeking an udpated status from the ME and will post as soon as we get word from them! Unfortunately communication remains spotty at this time.
Julie
Here is the message that Nikki Beach Worldwide’s Corporate Office Posted on the Nikki Beach Cabo San Lucas Facebook Page:
“Late Sunday night and throughout Monday a powerful and devastating Category 3 Hurricane Odile made landfall in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where we have had a Nikki Beach location since 2004. While a majority of the beautiful resort town has endured catestrophic damage we are relieved to know that there have not been reports of any serious injuries or deaths.
Nikki Beach Cabo San Lucas has sustained extensive damage that is still being evaluated but what’s most important to us is knowing that our 120 employees in Cabo and their families & friends are safe. We will keep everyone posted on fundraisers we will be doing around the world to provide aid to the amazing haven we all know as Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.”
Ercilia
Thank you, we’ll be sure to update this ASAP on our blog.
Mary
I am wondering about ME Cabo also. We will be there on October 25th, have you heard about any damage?
Robert Trama
Hello Mary, unfortunately we have yet to receive any official word from ME Cabo. Communication is proving very difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. We will update this blog the moment we get an official status from them. If you booked through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Mary
Thank you Robert for your info. This will be our 13th year in a row going to ME Cabo. Hopefully 13 will not be an unlucky number! God Bless and take care
Ercilia
Hi Mary, we did finally receive a limited update by way of Nikki Beach (see the blog post above), however no official comment from the resort. We will continue to update as much as possible. As Robert mentions, contact the party through which your reservation was made in order to discuss your travel plans.
Mary
Thank you Ercilla, glad to hear the hotel staff is ok. Thank you for your updates and God Bless
Ercilia
Hi Katie, we did finally receive a limited update by way of Nikki Beach (see the blog post above) which is at the resort, however no official comment from the resort. We will continue to update as much as possible.

Renee
We have a condo in Plaza Calafia in Cabo Bello – any information on that area? Wondering if windows are intact and if the palapas in the parking lots are still standing or have they toppled onto the park cars? Thanks so much and stay safe.
Ercilia
Hi Renee, the reports we’ve received suggest that many windows were probably destroyed throughout the condo complex at Cabo Bello, and there is possible damage to the palapa but no confirmation yet on that. One of our colleagues lives near Calafia and said it appears to have sustained damages. I’m sorry we can’t provide more detailed information at this time. Good luck!!!!!
Chris
Any word on Cabo Villas Beach Resort? I wonder about all my favorite beach hangouts and the people who worked in them. Heartbreaking, don’t know what to say. Can you post the names and info for local relief efforts please. I would like to get involved in the rebuilding and clean up efforts. Thanks…
Ercilia
Hi Chris – we are actively seeking an update or statement from Cabo Villas Beach Resort. We’ll post ASAP when we get further information. We’re also trying to get some contact information for local government agencies and relief efforts. Stand by!
Janine
Thank you Ercilla! I am checking your page daily for updates on cabo Villas Beach Resort. I cannot imagine what the Office (restaurant) looks like?! I am so sad about this.
Ercilia
Just posted an update from Cabo Villas Beach Resort!
PJ
Any news on Palmilla Norte, especially Villas de Oro outside of San Jose? We have a condo there and heard there was damage. Any news is helpful. Can’t get flight down until airport is open.
Ercilia
Sorry – no info yet on the Palmilla area, PJ. We’ll be updating this page as we get more information.
SR
PJ, We also have a condo at Villas de Oro. What kind of damage have you heard there is? I would appreciate any info you might have.
PJ
Hi, I heard that there was severe wind damage to the complex, thus affecting some units. This was before all communications were lost. Nothing since then. Tried reaching PM and a few locals but no luck. SR, let us know if you hear something, too.
SR
Hi PJ,
I have now been in contact with Marisol, the Palmilla Master Administrator. You can each her at marisol@palmilla.com.mx. They have people helping with cleanup. I will be going down there as soon as possible. What phase are you in? I am Phase I and will be happy to look in on your unit if you would like. Is there a way to private message? Maybe facebook(Shea Reiner)? Marisol reports that we have security 24/7 and there have been no problems in that regard. Unbelievably, one of the security staff rode out the storm in the guard shack all night!! That is one brave man!!
PJ
SR,
We’re in a Phase 3 building on the 2nd flr. We experienced broken windows and sliding doors and blown drywall and some missing roof tiles. I’m going down (from PA) with my nephew to help with cleanup, as soon as airport opens and can book a flight. I heard from our year-round neighbor that the power is not yet on, but she and her husband are doing a lot to garner cleanup in public spaces in Phase 3. Glad to know security is 24/7.
Jeslyn Wynkoop
Palmilla employee said bosses are reviewing things Laying people off and revisiting opening it Must be really damaged but saw aerial shot Just gardens looked bad must be more to it all.
Sheri
So sad to see the devastation, but happy there seems to be no significant injuries caused by Odile. We are wondering about damage at the Playa Grande on Solmar Beach. I don’t see anything here. Thank you!
Ercilia
Hi Sheri – the Solmar Resorts (the group that owns Playa Grande) still has this as their official status: “Hotel management is currently surveying and assessing the damage to all properties. We will share more information once we have it but rest assured that Solmar will continue to provide the best service possible to the guests that remain with us during this time through our dedicated staff & management team.”
We will, of course, update this page the moment we have further information about the status of the resort. We are also so grateful that the damages we’ve seen so far are repairable and that there have not been reports of significant injuries.
Terri Schelpe
Hello and thank you for helping the families trying to get information about what is happening in Los Cabos and areas. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people affected by Hurricane Odile.
We are concerned about our niece and her husband who were vacationing at the Dreams Suites in Cabo San Lucas. We know thankfully they are safe, but communication has been spotty. We are wondering if you know when they will be trying to evacuated tourists from that area back to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada? Are they able to get help out from the military transports or are they stuck until the airport reopens? We are seeing news feeds stating the airport will reopen on September 22, but then I see reports saying they are not sure when it will open.
Ercilia
The State Department has set up a crisis hotline to address inquiries about current conditions and loved ones in Los Cabos. If you require assistance personally, or want to inquire on behalf of a friend or family member, use the following contact information

Terri Schelpe
Thank you for the information. Your help is very much appreciated.
Jacklyn
So thankful for your updates / posts. What an amazing service you are providing to so many!! We look forward to visiting Cabo again and will be praying for healing and recovery for all in Odile’s path.
Ercilia
Thank you so much for your wonderful message, Jacklyn. Los Cabos will bounce back better than ever. It is an amazing destination with such wonderful people. We look forward to seeing you in Cabo when things settle down. 🙂
Doug
Planning a first trip to Cabo for 15 days in March. Your blog has been very helpful in understanding what has occurred as a result of hurricane Odile. We too are praying for the locals in the area. What can you tell us about Misiones Del Cabo condos specifically. I have been unable to get reports from them. How badly were they damaged and when might things be “back to normal”. Also the nearby beaches, coral reefs, restaurants, bars, etc. frequented tourists, what about them as well? This will be our first trip to Cabo and we were excited. We would rather wait for full recovery, then go too soon and be disappointed. Please share your thoughts.
Ercilia
Hi Doug! Los Cabos looks forward to welcoming you! We don’t work with Misiones del Cabo directly (we work with about 50 other resorts in the region and over 100 villa rentals throughout Los Cabos) so we don’t have an update on them at this time. However, hopefully somebody will see your post here and be able to contribute further if they know. What I can tell you is that the recovery/cleanup effort is WELL underway. We’ve already had many reports of restaurants and shops reopening. While the storm cleanup will take a several more weeks, since tourism is the heart of the economy in Cabo, all efforts are being made to get the destination back better than ever and ready to welcome our visitors (approximately 2 million visitors per year). If you hear anything more from Misiones, do post here so that others can see as well.
Bill Cushman
Have you heard what the status of the Holiday Inn Resort Los Cabos
Ercilia
Hello Bill, unfortunately we don’t have info on the Holiday Inn.
Virginia
Hi. I’m trying to find out about relatives living in Cabo San Lucas. Is there a place on the internet, like a register, to find out if relatives or anyone is in shelters, safe? Maybe a government link or something… My aunt’s name is Clementina Gomez (over 85 yrs old), her son Gustavo Manjarrez & Evelina Manjarrez.
Thank you:)
Ercilia
Hi Virginia, we’re still trying to locate a reliable local governmental contact for those seeking to inquire about local residents. As soon as we find one, we’ll update this page!
Beth
Do you have any information on the condition of Cabo Villas Beach Resort?
Ercilia
Hi Beth – we are actively seeking an update or statement from them. We’ll post ASAP when we get further information.
DJA
Hi, any knowledge about the state of the highway from Cabo to California?
Ercilia
Hi DJA – no official word, but informal rumors are that roads are not clear, as such not advisable to make that drive.
Jeslyn Wynkoop
landslides and bridge out I was told but can’t verify, that several buses with americans on board are stuck half way up. Ferry out of La Paz is working now.
Michael Kies
Funny how guests at the One and Only Palmilla and the Ventanas al Paraiso, the two most exclusive hotels in Cabo, were evacuated WELL AHEAD of the hurricane! The rich got the life boats, everyone else stays behind with the mariachi’s still playing/singing!
Deborah
You know Michael, that was totally uncalled for.
I am sure that everyone was affected. I am worried about everyone there. The local folks that live there are all wonderful people, and work very hard. We have gone there for years and it has been a beautiful place to visit. I am waiting for information to donate.
DeAnn
I don’t see any information from Cabo Villas Beach Resort and Spa. Can you find out how they fared? Thank you.
DeAnn
Sorry I requested this before I saw other similar comments…
Ercilia
No problem!
Christie
Do you have any recent updates about Sandos resort? My sister and brother in law are staying there. Do they have food & water and are in safe conditions? Last we heard from them the hotel room was flooded, no electricity and no running water… we are very worried as we have not had contact with them in 24 hours. Any updates would be greatly appreciated!
Ercilia
Hi Christie, actually the resort JUST posted this update, I’ll add it to the blog now: “Hurricane Odile Update:After the first 24 hours, there are still problems with power supplies as well as phone lines and internet conections so, unfortunately, it is not possible to talk to the hotel directly in this moment. Despite so, we can confirm that all the guests at the hotel are our priority. They all are safe and being taken care of and we are working hard together with the authorities and suppliers to recover the communications and supplies as soon as possible. At this moment, due to the communication problems, it is difficult to get official updates about the situation. As soon as we have more information about the evacuation plans we will share the news here.”
Ercilia
Christie, just posted a new update from Sandos!
Kristy
Hi. Thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this disaster! We are supposed to be arriving in Cabo on the 28th and staying at Esperanza. Any update on the hotel and villas there?
Thanks!
Ercilia
Hi Kristy, Esperanza Resort posted online: “Hurricane Odile has passed through Cabo San Lucas and everyone at Esperanza is safe, however the hotel did sustain damage from the high winds and rain. We are assessing the extent of the damage and repairs over the next few days and will let everyone know when we expect to reopen. Thanks to our guests and homeowners for their amazing support and the warm wishes.”
My suggestion is to contact the resort directly.
Jeff
Does anyone have any information regarding the condition of the privately owned villas at Esperanza? We have rented one the middle of October. Please advise.
Robert Trama
Hello Jeff, we don’t represent Esperanza. Maybe somebody else reading our blog knows something…
Kris
Does anyone have any more information on damage to both Dreams and Melia Cabo Real? Thank you!
Ercilia
Hi Kris, Dreams still has no further update beyond what’s on our blog. We’re still trying to track down a status from Melia Cabo Real.
Jeanette
I have reservation at Cabo Villas Resort for 27 Sep. Is the hotel able to take guests or is the area beyond guest at this time? I am so sorry for this devastation. My prayer are coming your way.

Hello,
So sorry for your experience with the hurricane. We have a large group coming in May and have reservations at the Sunset de Mona Lisa. How does that area look?
Thank you!
Ercilia
Hi Laura, while we don’t have reports yet from that area, since your reservations are so far out in advance your group should be just fine. Check directly with the provider where you booked reservations.
Jessica
This is an incredibly detailed and extensive supply of information. I am not traveling until late November so I’m not worried about my travel, but I did want to see how impacted everything was and this site was the best information by far. Kudos to you and your team for putting this together and for patiently answering everyone’s questions. I’m praying for all the people who lost more than just their beach vacation.
Ercilia
Thanks Jessica, so happy to be of help! We’ll keep updating as we get more information!
Suzie Craig
I agree! I love Cabovillas.com. This is so far the most extensive reporting i’ve come across. We are all anxious to get Cabo back to the place we all know and love. And I know that if we all could come help we would. Thank you for all the updates. My thoughts and prayers are with all the residents in Cabo and all the areas affected by this horrible act from Mother Nature.
Brad
I just read “Mexico’s government said late Monday night that army and commercial planes would be sent to La Paz and Los Cabos airports to ferry out some of the tens of thousands of tourists stranded in temporary shelters in hotels. Los Cabos international airport was damaged by the storm.”
Can you provide any information on when that will begin?
Ercilia
Hi Brad, Reports indicate that Mexican military aircraft have begun evacuating tourists from the region as of Tuesday 9/16/14. We will update as more information becomes available.

Looking for info on the Blanco Resort under Pueblo Bonito properties. My parents were staying there and I haven’t heard from them since yesterday afternoon. Just looking for info on the resort, if they have water, food, electricity, etc?

Just updated the blog with new info from Pueblo Bonito Resorts.

Any word on Las Mananitas or Flora’s Farm

I just took a look at the Flora Farms facebook page, and they’ve posted the following: “Flora Farm was badly damaged by the storm, but our family and pets are ok. Thank you all for your concern and thoughts. We will keep you updated.” Here is a link: http://on.fb.me/Xy9KEr No word yet on Las Mañanitas.

I am scheduled to be married there October 25th. We are renting a villa in Puerto Los Cabos (up on the hill) with many of our guests staying at Hotel El Ganzo near the Marina.
Do you know anything about how the Puerto Los Cabos area was affected?
Thanks so much for your help and attention.
Best,
Katelin
Ercilia
Hi Katelin, unfortunately we still don’t have detailed reports from Puerto Los Cabos or Hotel El Ganzo as to the current conditions in the area and at all of our villas in that region. As soon as we do, we’ll be updating here. Did you plan your wedding with us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com)? If so, please contact our team at 1-855-745-222.

Thank you for providing these updates. Its really hard to find information from here in Australia. We hope everyone is safe and well. We would love to know when power is likely to be restored to the hotel our daughter is staying at – Pueblo Bonito Blanco.- as there has been no contact for 36 hours.
Ercilia
I’m so sorry, Les. I know it must be very worrying. He have not heard additional information from the Pueblo Bonito Resorts. I can tell you, however, that communication is very difficult at the moment due to power outages, etc. We will continue to update as information becomes available.
Ercilia
Just updated the blog with new info from Pueblo Bonito Resorts.
KaliD
Hello – wonderful site for updates on Cabo. Any news about the Missiones del Cabo (esp Condo area)? Have plans to go in couple of months and just trying to assess if there is too much damage to warrant moving trip elsewhere.
Ercilia
So sorry, Kali. Nothing yet! Who did you book with? You should stay in touch directly with our tour operator for the latest status. Good luck!
terin
Do you have any information on the ship wreck area by east cape? We have a home there and we can’t get ahold of our caretaker. We are so worried about what is going on down there and the people affected, any info would be greatly appreciated
Ercilia
Terin – I hope this helps, an update from the East Cape area: http://bit.ly/1piGVCe but nothing specifically from the shipwreck’s area yet. Good luck! If you hear more, please post here to share the news with others.

Does anyone know the condition of the Marina?
Robert Trama
Hello Nancy, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to the region. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Laura Johnston

My wife and I own at sunset and have you all in our prayers.
Frances Ortega
Hello! My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Cabo!! I’m getting married at Cabo Villas October 10th. My wedding planner is not in Cabo and she is having a hard time reaching people. Just was wondering if you think it is still possible or should I try and come up with another plan. Feel aweful asking but just trying to come up with a plan
Perica Bell
What did you figure out? I was getting married in San Jose on 10/11, can’t happen now, all flights have been cancelled. Trying to get an alternative date from my hotel, but they are still unreachable. I hope everything ends up working out for you.
Jody Park
Hello

thanks
jody park
Robert Trama
Hello Jody, we posted an update yesterday regarding both the Riu Santa Fe and Riu Cabo San Lucas that indicates that “At present there is both water and food for the hotel guests.” You can see the full statement from Riu near the top of this same page. Unfortunately, we haven’t received any additional information as of yet. Be sure to check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.

Ed
My buddy and I each have a cruising sailboat on L Dock in Puerto los Cabos. I am very concerned about our local caretaker that said he was going to stay aboard another boat “Felina” across the basin during the storm and we cannot now reach him. Is there anyway for you to contact the PLC Marina or the Marine Group Boatyard in PLC for a status of this boat and the other docks? The marina has been silent.
How are you collecting info while we are unable to reach anyone by phone or internet?
Thank you for all you are doing.
Ercilia
Hi Ed, we have our local team in Los Cabos and we are in intermittent communication with them, their priority so far has been 1. getting their living situation in order and 2. checking on our guests and the properties we work with directly. We’re also gathering information from the resorts directly via their public posts and corporate headquarters. Unfortunately, so far it’s been really hard to get any clarification on the Puerto Los Cabos area. As soon as we have info, we’ll be sure to update this blog. As you well know, communication is very tough right now. We’re trying to stay in touch via our various social media channels, local connections, etc. The best of luck to you in finding out more. PLEASE post here when you hear anything further, I’m sure it will help others looking for information from the PLC marina and La Playita area. THANK YOU.
JOANNE OSTROM AND GEORGE ARMSTRONG
HI ED. I JUST POSTED TWO PICTURES ON LA MARINA INN FACEBOOK PAGE TAKEN FROM THE ROOF OF EL GANZO HOTEL. THE MARINA HAS A LOT OF DAMAGE. WE ARE STILL TRYING TO GET MORE INFORMATION AND IT IS JUST NOT AVAILABLE YET. THE BOAT YARD WORKS SEPERATE OF THE MARINA AND THEY HAVE NO NEWS OTHER THAN THE BOATS IN THE BOAT YARD STORAGE. I AM POSTING ALL INFORMATION ON MY PAGE AND TRYING TO GET INFO ON DAMAGE TO OUR PLACE. WATCH MY FB ALSO FOR UPDATES.
Ercilia
Hi Joanne – I’m trying to find the photos on your FB page but I don’t see them?

Robert Trama
Hello Lisa, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to our villas and that particular region. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Jessica bailey
Hey Lisa,
Did you happen to find out any information about eL encanto de la Laguna ???
Hope
Thank you for the updates. Any word about damage to Club Regina and Grand Regina? Our family is totally out of touch with us.
Mike
Thanks for all the great updates as I know by looking at the photos things are in bad shape.
Been traveling to Cabo for 15 years and I know they will fix it better than it was before
The best news was that there were no fatallities as property can always be fixed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Cabo.
Be Safe
Ercilia
Hi Mike, thanks for your post! Of course, Cabo will bounce back better than ever. Los Cabos is a wonderful destination with some of the most amazingly warm and capable people – of course, you already know that!

I don’t suppose you know how the resorts up the coast have faired, do you? Cerritos? Heard the Hacienda is destroyed, all staff have left, and there are ppl stranded up there??
Christine
Any word on Cabo dolphins?
Ercilia
We are trying to get an update from Cabo Dolphins, Christine. Communication has been very spotty.
Ahmed
Hey guys,
Prayers and sympathy to all those in Cabo, particularly the locals. We are supposed to fly in to the riu sante fe on September 29th, but there is no way that it is possible for the community and resorts to recover from the wreckage in such a short time. I would say at least one month before everything even begins to function normally.
Glad to hear injuries are minimal and no one is severely injured.
Ercilia
Thanks for the prayers, Ahmed. If you booked through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Joel
Do you have any information on terrasol? I am a condo owner there but I have not received any info.
Robert Trama
Hello Joel, while we haven’t received any official word from Terrasol (we don’t represent their property) we did receive the following statement from Solmar Group “Hotel management is currently surveying and assessing the damage to all properties. We will share more information once we have it but rest assured that Solmar will continue to provide the best service possible to the guests that remain with us during this time through our dedicated staff & management team.” I hope this helps.
Alison
I have reservations for Melia Cabo Real for my honeymoon but i haven’t been able to get any updates on the condition of the hotel. Do you have any information about the condition?
Thanks for any updates.
Alison
Robert Trama
Hello Alison, unfortunately we have yet to receive any official word from Meliá Cabo Real.
Myron
I was also curious and checked about every possible page looking for an update. The Melia International facebook page has an update saying they’re not taking any reservations at this time although there is a tripadvisor page that the question was asked for this resort and a person had commented that they had called Melia directly and had suggested re-opening October 15th. Yet reviews on trip advisor claim the damage was extensive (there are a few pictures floating around). I am assuming they’ll have a better idea once they get things completely cleaned up what needs to be fixed and what type of timelines will be required. We are booked over the christmas break to stay here. I can only assume it will take a week or so for most resorts that were significantly damaged to figure out how they can get re-opened. They’ll want people back on the resort as soon as possible but it can take time. All the best to those affected
Sandi
Have there been any updates on the damage sustained at the Secrets Los Cabos Resort and Spa?
Ercilia
Hi there, Sandi – Secrets has not released another statement beyond what is currently on our blog, but we’ll be monitoring it throughout the day. Initial reports indicate there have been some damages at the resort, but we do not know the extent at this time.
Wendy Batchelor
Any information on the Bel Air Collection Resort & Spa Las Cabos??? Any information as to where guests are? Thank you for any help!!
Robert Trama

Any news on Villa Vista Ballena? I am having my wedding there in two months.
Robert Trama
Hello Nicole, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to our villas. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.

We have a home in Pedregal. No word from our caretaker, neighbors, etc. ES&S manages our rentals and we are desperate for any information on our property. Name of villa is Serrana. If you know anything or can post photos we would be so grateful.
Ercilia
Hi Lori, I know Julie was going to be in touch with you. I will forward your message to her again.
barbara gallaty
Can you get any info on the Bahia in Medano Beach area? We are scheduled to stay there Oct 8.
Ercilia
Still trying to get an update from Bahia, unfortunately. Communication has been difficult but we will update this blog the moment we get an official status from them. If you booked through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Ercilia
Ok, just found a new update from them. “All Bahia and Bar Esquina staff and guests are safe and accounted for. Unfortunately, there has been no power and only limited communication. The federal government is working with the phone company to restore service for land lines and cell phones, while the army has begun work to evacuate 15,000-plus tourists Tijuana, Mazatlan and Guadalajara, where they’ll connect to flights to their home towns. We will continue to make updates when possible.” They also mentioned “We know there was no major damage to the Bahia.”
barbara gallaty
Thanks for the info

Thank you for all of the updates…we own a place in Cabo and come all the time. Am wondering how the businesses have fared…the office, Ediths the marina area…no where bar? We have got to know these owners over the years and hope their businesses are ok from the storm. Would love any information you have…thank you!
Ercilia
Hi Dawn, so far we’ve been focusing on finding out what limited information we can about our villas and resorts. If I can find some info on local business, we will be sure to update here as well. A number of local restaurants and other businesses were severely impacted.
dawn
ok thank you! Just worried about everyone 🙂
Alejandra
Any update on Cabo Azul? I had a reservation for Sunday the 21st and was informed by Alaska Airlines about the devastating news. My prayers to all the residents and tourist in Cabos.
Ercilia
Hi Alejandra, so far the reports we’ve seen indicate that the airport will be closed to commercial flights until at least September 22. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please try to get in touch with them to review your travel plans. Good luck!
Teri
Hello – I am wondering about Cabo Villas and Marina Sol?
Also about the Tropicana in SJD?
Robert Trama
Hello Teri, unfortunately we have yet to receive any official word from Cabo Villas Beach Resort. We don’t actually represent Marina Sol or the Tropicana but I did do a quick search and have found no info on their current status. Communication is proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. We will update this blog the moment we get an official status from them. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Aileen
Hi! Thank you for the updates in Cabo San Lucas. Glad to hear everyone is safe. We have a trip to cabo at the Villa Del Palmar on Sep27-oct 4. What is your advice as far as to keeping the reservation or should we just cancel. From the looks of pictures online, the hotel may be ok, but the surroundings may not be. So would it be ideal to even go? Thanks for any advice.
Ercilia
Hi Aileen, if you booked through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Terry Baldwin
Thank you for the wonderful updates. My daughter is at the Villa Del Arco. No communication since Monday. Is there an update regarding the military transports? How will we know if she is able to get to the airport to get on one of those plans? Please provide any links that can help keep us updated.
Regards and prayers for all of those in cabo
Ercilia
Hi Terry, the Villa Group properties have fared pretty well in light of the intensity of Odile. They communicated to us this morning that damages are not extensive. We are trying to find out information on transport to the airport. As you know, communication and transportation have been severely impacted. We’ve heard some conflicting reports about how people are getting to SJD so we will post more when we have more definitive information. Guests will be briefed by the resorts where they’re staying as to evacuation plans. Best of luck in hearing from your daughter soon!
Jason Bratcher
Any info on the Club Regina? Looks like their FB page is not giving out much information.
JIll
Hello Ercilia,
Thanks for all your updates. I would love into on Restaurants as well. We are coming Oct 11 and will make other arrangements if we can’t see our friends at our favorite places. Any info on Tabasco’s, Maros, La Dolce would be greatly appreciated if you come across it.
Please stay safe.
Ercilia
Hi Jill, hopefully others with any information on local restaurants will be able to post here and update.
ChanelC
Does anyone have news about Sunset Mona Lisa? We are getting married there in January and have been unable to get any information from our wedding planner in Cabo or the restaurant in regards to the damage they sustained. Any information would be helpful, thank you.
Dani
I’m also supposed to be getting married there, but in April. No word from our wedding planner either… I can’t help but think that this recovery is going to take well beyond that.
Lucia
Hi Ercilia, many thanks for keeping so many people updated with the situation in Los Cabos. Do you know if the lack of electricity is general to the area or a resort-by-resort basis?
(We are trying to contact family staying at the Sandos Finisterra but the lines don’t seem to work and the last direct contact we had from them was yesterday, which probably means they ran out of cell phone battery and haven’t found a way to recharge yet.)
Ercilia
Hi Lucia, some resorts have their own generators and are therefore able to provide power. Unfortunately, I don’t have a complete list of which resorts are running on generator. I do know that Sandos updated with the following comments yesterday: “Hurricane Odile Update:After the first 24 hours, there are still problems with power supplies as well as phone lines and internet conections so, unfortunately, it is not possible to talk to the hotel directly in this moment.
Ercilia
Lucia, just posted another update from Sandos!
Andrea
We are planning to travel to Cabo on 10/9 and stay at Club Tesoro Wyndham. Do you know the status of this resort?
Thank you!
Ercilia
Wyndham has not yet provided us an official update on the status of the hotel. Unfortunately, communication remains very difficult due to widespread power outages in the area. If you booked through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another travel provider or the resort directly, please get in touch with them to review your travel plans.
Maria
Thanks, Ercilia, for these updates.
We are saddened to learn of the devastation caused by the hurricane but we are glad that there were no fatalities. We hope that the people we have come to know over the past years there are doing okay.
We made plans and reservations months ago for our visit to Los Cabos in February. We are staying at a condo at the Casa del Mar. Although we have read hurricane statements about the Hilton and other hotels, we have not seen anything about the Casa del Mar itself. Would you happen to know what the situation is there? I assume they were hit as hard as the nearby Hilton and Melia.
Thanks for your info, Ercilia.
Ercilia
Hi there Maria, I don’t have an update from the Casa del Mar condos. However, Zoetry did mention their resort (adjacent to the condos) suffered “cosmetic damages and substantial debris, yet no serious structural damages.” We will update more as we hear further.
Brett
Ercilia, You are such a doll for posting all these updates for everyone. My aunt has a phase two condo right on the beach at Casa del Mar and we are a little worried as you can imagine. We are waiting to hear back from the HOA if any windows were blown out. I will re-post as I get info.
Ercilia
THANK YOU BRETT! We’re waiting for word from our condo property manager at Casa del Mar too, will post when we hear! Good luck!
Carl
My parents were at Cabo Villas Resort and last I talk to them was Monday at 6:00 CST. Do you know the status of the guests at this resort.
Thanks

Sarah
I have a family member that lives in Cabo. We have not heard from her in two days since her cell lost battery. Is there a way for us to contact anyone there? I’m only seeing US residents that have access to points of contact..? Also, is there an estimate on when power will be restored? Are people receiving clean water?
Ercilia
Hi Sarah, we share your frustration as we have our own team in Los Cabos, and many family and friends. We’re still trying to find reliable local governmental contact information for those seeking updates on local residents. There is not an estimate as to when power will be restored throughout the region. Several resort areas are operating on generator. Hopefully anybody who sees this post and has more information may be able to contribute further. Otherwise, keep checking our blog and we’ll continue to provide resources.
Ercilia
Sarah, just found this article re: power
Sarah
Thank you for your fast response; very grateful I found this website!
Linda Garcia
Hello… I scrolled through the blog and did not see if there was any information on the Royal Solaris Resort. We have 13 family members that were staying there and we have not heard or had communications from them in well over 30 hours. Have you heard anything on this resort? Thank you for taking the time to keep us all informed. It is no frustrating not knowing if they are ok.

Linda, happy to report that Royal Solaris provided the following update: “Once again thank you for all the support; we inform to everyone that today our guests have returned to their homes. We have already started working with enthusiasm to repair the damaged areas to welcome soon in your home away from home.”
Linda Garcia
Sorry… SO frustrating… My prayers to all of the locals down there as well. Such devastation…

Any word on how the Villa Andaluza faired? We are scheduled to stay there on October 19th.
Thank you for all your hard work in keeping us informed!
Robert Trama
Hello Ken, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to our villas. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Good morning Ercilia-
Do you have an update on Cabo Villas Beach Resort? We are scheduled to arrive on 10/4. I have yet to see a statement on their website and find any information regarding the damage done to the resort.
Robert Trama

Ercilia
Just posted an update from Cabo Villas Beach Resort!
Rick
Thanks Ercilia,
I had a chance to talk with my son Ryan Monday evening. He is there at Villa del Palmar Cabo on his honeymoon with his bride Kelsey. He said his room did not have any damage but the main lobby was pretty well destroyed. They had reopened a bar/restaurant. So they were being fed and had water. The facility is being supplied by generator power. Which meant one light in their room in the kitchen. How long can this resort supply food and water to the guests? Are they informing the guests about the Military evacuations taking place?
Robert Trama
Hello Rick, we have been in touch with the management of the Villa Group hotels (including Villa del Palmar). They informed us that they have been operating under generator power and have also indicated that they have water, food and beverage available for their guests, employees and their families. We are still awaiting for official word on the evacuation protocol. We have heard that the Mexican military is overseeing the evacuation process and are working with the all the hotels to evacuate their guests as quickly as possible. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Rick
Thanks Robert!
Cell service is back at Villa del Palmar. Contact was made with Ryan and Kelsey, what a relief. They are hanging in there. They are being bussed out in the morning to the airport. Going to be honeymoon stories to tell. Hopefully they can get a redo and have a picture perfect Honeymoon.
Ercilia
We will be excited to welcome them back to Los Cabos when things settle down!
heidi harper
what about all the restaurants on the beach in cabo san lucas? The Office, Mango deck etc.?
Robert Trama
Hello Heidi, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to the region. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. With that said, we don’t have any specific information about the condition of the hotels and businesses located directly on Médano Beach. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Sarah
Do you know if they are advising residents to leave? Stay? To go to shelters?
Robert Trama
Hello Sarah, we have yet to receive official word regarding local residents. However, we did receive reports that segments of the main highway in and out of the Los Cabos region are presently impassable due to flooding and damage. With that said, I believe most local residents have been advised to stay home or seek accommodations in a shelter. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
JOsh
Hi Ercilia,
Do you have any word on Sunset Da Mona Lisa and/or Cabo Eco Cat cruises?
Robert Trama
Hello Josh, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to the region. We haven’t seen any updates regarding Sunset Da Mona Lisa or any of the cruise operators. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Chris B.
For those that are interested the Bisbee family of the Bisbee Black and Blue tournament held in Cabo each year have started a hurricane relief fund with a 250k intial donation of their own. This will directly fund local residents and business owners alike. You can find detailed info at Bisbee.com. Also Pisces sportfishing is posting pics and videos of the hurricane aftermath on their FB page. Also there are now many forums on Tripadvisor that have detailed info and links on the hurricane aftermath. Just an FYI…
Robert
We heard that residents that are woman and children are being flown to Mexico City, anyone know if that’s true. Looking for my brother’s family who resides in Cabo
Robert Trama
Hello Robert, we received word yesterday that the Mexican air force is airlifting hotel guests to airports in regions not affected by the hurricane (Tijuana, Mazatlán, Guadalajara and Mexico City) to catch connecting flights . However, we are not certain if they are also airlifting residents. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
johnston
any word on properties from Los Zacatitos up the cape from there? Lots of homeowners trying to get info but cant find anything. thoughts are with everyone down there.
Ercilia
One of our villa owners in the East Cape has reported the road unpassable, but we are still awaiting further updates.
Bob Button
I read the post above regarding Barcelona grand faro in san jose del cabo, but it doesn’t state anything about the condition of the hotel. We are due to arrive October 5th, and I want to make sure we still have a room to stay in. I did not book this trip thru you, but any additional information you have on the Barcelona grand faro would be appreciated .
Robert Trama
Hello Bob, as of yet, we haven’t received any additional information from Barceló regarding hotel operations. However, from what we’ve been seeing, I doubt the hotel will be ready for guests by October 5th. Be sure to check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in. Good luck.
Bob
Evidently part of the main pool collapsed into the Pacific at The Grand Solmar. Hopefully there were no structural problems with the new building which was right in the heavy surf.
Ashley
Hello,
My parents are currently living in Cabo and were able to call out and say they were okay. They have asked me to add minutes to their Mexican Cell phone so they can keep us updated. My mom said something about a site ‘babble’ or vabble’ that will let me add minutes? If anyone knows what they are talking about or if this sounds vaguely familiar can you please let me know. Thank you so much in advance!!
Robert Trama
Hello Ashley, if your parents currently have a monthly plan with Telcel, you may be able to access their account or set up an account with their number via the Telcel website to add minutes. You can try accessing their account (if they have one set up) or you may be able to set it up here: https://www.mitelcel.com/mitelcel I hope this helps.
Melissa C.
Hello! I have family staying in the Mision San Gabriel Villa at the Hacienda Encantada Residences. Nobody has heard a word from them since Sept. 14th. That’s 3 days. 🙁 Any word?
Robert Trama
Hello Melissa, we posted an update yesterday regarding the Hacienda Encantada Resort “Everyone at the hotels – employees and guests – are all safe.” You can see the full statement from Hacienda Encantada near the top of this same page. Unfortunately, we haven’t received any additional information as of yet. Be sure to check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Ercilia
Hi Melissa – a little additional update from the resort just posted above on our blog.
samantha
Any news as to what hotels have gotten guest to airports to Tijuana? I tried to hotline and no luck my mom is there and im teribly worried. She is at the Riu Palace
Robert Trama
Hello Samantha, we have yet to receive any official word on the evacuation procedure. The Mexican government is in charge of the evacuation process and unfortunately we are still uncertain of how and in what order they are scheduling guests for the airlift. We know that their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
DeAnn
We have friends at Riu Palace who have gotten word out that they will be trying to fly out tomorrow. To where, I don’t know.
DeAnn
Also, they have food but no running water.
Ercilia
Thanks DeAnn, I know it must be frustrating for all of the travelers waiting. But everything we’ve heard indicates that the government is working directly with the resorts in order to evacuate stranded vacationers in phases in order to maintain an organized evacuation following the hurricane.
Anna Anderson
My daughter is in Cabo at the Marquis Resort and haven’t heard from her since Monday. Can you tell me what kind of damage is there and if everyone is okay and when she might be able to come back home? 737 932 4028 Thank you.
Ercilia
Hello Anna, we haven’t received any updates about the Marquis beyond what is posted here. Communication is very difficult at this point due to spotty cell availability and widespread outages. We will continue to update here as possible. I can tell you that the Mexican government is coordinating evacuation efforts directly with resorts in Los Cabos.
Lisa Gutierrez
Can you tell what the status is on Cabo Azul in San Jose??? Haven’t heard much on that part of Los Cabos.
Ercilia
We don’t work with the Cabo Azul resort directly so we haven’t sought out an update yet, however I just checked their FB page and there is no update. If we do hear anything, I’ll be sure to post it here.
Sybelle Sprague
I’m here with my father wondering how our home in pedregal is doing? Any news regarding Villa Haydee and the rest of Pedregal? Thank you for the updates. Real news is hard to come by.
Sybelle
Robert Trama
Hello Sybelle, unfortunately at this time our on-site team in Cabo is still in the process of assessing damages to our villas located in the Pedregal. Their efforts are proving difficult due to the loss the power throughout the region, not to mention the loss of cellular and internet service. I’m sorry I don’t have more information for you at the moment. Please check back frequently as we will continue to update this blog with more information as it comes in.
Sybelle
Thank you. Stay safe.
DJA
Ericilia, thank you for all your hard work with updating. I have heard reports that cell service is beginning to be restored in some areas, can you confirm or deny that? Are you in Cabo and, if so, how are you posting? I have also heard some reports of violence (not looting but robberies of people and homes), have you heard anything to that effect? Again, thank you very much for all that you’re doing.
Ercilia
Hi DJA, we just posted an update about cell and landline phone service, short answer – some service is back but due to wires down and power outages, communication is still spotty. Our extensive team of coworkers, colleagues and friends in Los Cabos have been keeping us constantly up to date and thankfully they are all safe. I myself am currently headquartered in California. Because we have specialized in Los Cabos for over 25 years, we have long been considered a local expert/authority and as such have extensive connections throughout the region, as well as our own excellent team there. Even though connectivity has been very limited, we’ve managed to remain in constant contact through various sources. Thanks so much for your kind words.
Ronnie
Hello and thank you so much for the work you are putting in to keep us informed! I have family staying at the Riu Santa Fe. The last update was on September 16th. Could you please confirm that everyone is still safe? Thank you.
Ronnie
I have been reunited with my family last night! Thank you so much for all the work you did to keep us informed during this trying time. 🙂
Ercilia
Ronnie, we ARE SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS NEWS! More and more reports are coming out of people who are making their way back home. Glad to hear they’re with you and we are hoping and praying Cabo’s back on its feet sooner than later! 🙂
Armi Boots
I’m so happy that you made it home safely. My sister ,DiAnne Lozano, and four of her friends stayed at RIU Santa Fe. We’ve had no contact from them since Sunday just before the hurricane hit until yesterday afternoon with a brief text that said they were supposed to be picked up by the Mexican military for evacuation at 3:45 this morning, Thursday from RIU. I just wanted to know how you were able to get help coming home and how long did it take from the hotel to the border. Thank you for any info you can share.
Ronnie
Hello,
Thank you so much for your kind words. My two family members were picked up by Sunwing (a Canadian charter airline that they used to book the trip) and flown from Los Cabos to Vancouver on Wednesday night. From what I understand, there was another flight heading out to Toronto that same night, but most of the people from the hotel were still waiting for evacuation flights home.
I’m really hoping that you can be reunited with your sister and her friends very soon!
Ed Sorensen
Any info on Ventanas del Mar phase 2? It is located behind Costco, up on the hill.
Ercilia
We don’t have a current update, however, hopefully somebody here can contribute/comment if they hear anything. Looks like Kathy D (another commenter) is also looking for information, so please post on her comment as well if you hear anything!
Mike l
Any news on posada real Los Cabos we are scheduled to arrive early jan 2015 for family vacation.
Ercilia
Hi Mike, as we don’t work directly with Posada we have not yet received an update. However, hopefully somebody here can contribute/comment if they hear anything. Contact your tour provider or the resort directly to discuss your travel plans.
Kathy D
Is there any word on Ventanas Residences near Costco?
Ercilia
We don’t have a current update, however, hopefully somebody here can contribute/comment if they hear anything. Looks like Ed Sorensen (another commenter on this blog) is also looking for information, so please post on her comment as well if you hear anything!

Kathy
I live at about 8KM mark on the ocean side of highway next to Esperanza. Our other family members house is directly on the water, mine is about 25 yrds higher.
Damage on my house was remarkably small–mainly broken windows. I didn’t even get the water damage I had in other storms. We think it was because of the angle the winds came in. Im hearing from our friends down there that in your condo area expect broken windows and likely water damage to furniture.
On the beach from we lost palapa but not the pool. Of course down trees…many broken windows and most furniture water damage. Neighbor lost seawall all windows with cabinets and subzero ripped out.
Hope this helps.
Amy
Hi PML,
My family has a condo in the Esperanza. We’re still waiting to hear how extensive the damage. Do you have any idea how badly the Esperanza was hit?
Thanks so much!
Amy
Kathy D
Thanks so much for the info and Yes, it does help. My heart goes out to the locals. I hope life and the beauty of Cabo can soon be restored to normal.
Kathy D.
Cathy Duenas
I have seen info about the Sheraton Hacienda del Mar and announcements from Starwood about their sponsoring property. Hacienda
Del Mar Vacation Club has been silent. I have searched high and
low for any info on the resort. Any word? I can only guess there is damage based
On the Sheraton report but not the
Extent.
Ercilia
Hi Cathy, we don’t have an update but hopefully somebody will see your post here and be able to contribute further.
Joe Pedoni
Any info. On the pueblo Bonita Sunset a beach resort would be appreciated…photos if available would also be appreciated..
Ercilia
No further additional official comments from PB but we’ll continue to monitor.
Loretta
My heart goes out to everyone dealing with the devastation in Cabos. I hope all the wonderful, hardworking people at the resorts and their families are safe and getting the help they need. I also hope that all of the visitors will arrive home safe and sound soon,
I have a timeshare at Grand Solmar and will definitely visit when things are back to normal.
Ercilia
Thanks for your wonderful comments Loretta. Los Cabos looks back to welcoming all of our visitors with open arms once things return to normal. 🙂
Kevin
We have reservations for Dec 31 to come and stay at The Royal Solaris. Do you think everything will be up and running by then or should we look at going somewhere else?
Ercilia
Hi Kevin, we don’t have any further updates yet from Solaris. If you booked your reservation through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us ASAP to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another tour provider or the resort directly, please contact them to discuss your travel plans.
Betsy
Do you have information about damages to rental homes? I am interested in knowing the status of Villa Tranquilidad and Villa Dios de Mar.
Thank you.
Ercilia
Hi Betsy, we have some updates on our villas but not a complete list yet, our team is diligently working to gather status updates on all properties, but it’s difficult due to road conditions etc. Sorry I don’t have more information for you yet!
Mark
any add’l update on Diamante? we heard the staff and guests were safe but no information on level of damage or when the resort will be accepting new arrivals?
Ercilia
Hello Mark, as we don’t work directly with Diamante we have not yet received an update. However, hopefully somebody here can contribute/comment if they hear anything.
Estelle
Any word on when power will be restored to the city? Is Tel Cell up and working today?
Ercilia
Some reports have indicated restoring widespread power could take “weeks,” however the situation is all changing rapidly. Some cell service and landline service has been partially restored, but downed wires and power outages of course impact the situation. We’ll continue to update.
Toby Copeland
Hello, I am the owner of Villa Cristina in Cabo Bello. I spoke to a friend today who left Cabo on Monday. He informed me that Security is in place at Cabo Bello and that my house is in near perfect condition, but that it may be awhile before power is restored. Does anyone know how we can help the local people? I hear that generators and gas are desperately needed. I was thinking of hiring a shipping company to bring generators/supplies? any advice would be appreciated.
Ercilia
Hi Toby, I’m going to forward your message to Don. Also hoping that others here can contribute with regard to local relief effort information.
Chris B
Hello, for those that are interested in making a donation and supporting Hurricane Odile relief efforts you can make an online donation at Bisbee.com. The Bisbee family has a long history in the Los Cabos community. They sponsor the biggest fishing tournament in Cabo every Oct. They have seeded this fund with a 250,000 usd donation of their own. One hundred percent of the monies raised will go directly to local residents and business owners. Detailed information is available on their website at Bisbee.com. Thanks…
Josh
Hi Ercilia,
Do you have any idea on how Sunset Da Mona Lisa faired the storm? Was there any major damage? Also, how about cabo eco cat?
Thanks,
Ercilia
We don’t have an update from Sunset da Mona Lisa or the Eco Cat but hopefully somebody can contribute here further if they’ve heard. We’re still trying to get word from some of our other activity vendors as well.
Ercilia
We don’t have an update from Sunset da Mona Lisa or Eco Cat but hopefully somebody can contribute here further if they’ve heard!
Teresa
Hi there. Glad to hear a lot of properties and the people are ok. My sister is having her wedding at Sunset Da Monalisa restaurant in early November of this year. We haven’t been able to find any information on the damages. I am sure it is not good. Has anyone heard anything? The Sunset Da Monalisa’s website has not been updated and I cannot find anything online. We are very worried that the wedding might not happen now.
Ercilia
Hi Teresa, we don’t have an update from Sunset da Mona Lisa but hopefully somebody can contribute here further if they’ve heard.
Gail
I have a niece at Hotel Riu Palace – Cabo San Lucas – has ANYONE heard anything as to getting them out? ANYTHING at all
Ercilia
Hi Gail, we haven’t received further official word from the Riu properties. However, we do know that the Mexican governmental authorities are working directly with the resorts in order to coordinate the evacuation efforts in an orderly fashion with the resorts directly.
Gene Simmons
Just talked to Solmar Properties CORP. Playa Grande and Solmar beach closed until 22 OCT 2014. Owners and guest will get communication on how to get full refund for guest and for Owners move week to later time.
Andrea
I spoke to the Westin (corporate) yesterday and they will not be open in Cabo until November, EARLIEST. We had reservations for check in on Oct 25. and have been refunded.
Also, Spoke to the Melia Real Resort. We also had reservations there for same time period. The rep said that the hotel would be open at that time and honoring reservations. He said that the Melia Real’s beach was affected only and that no structural damage had been sustained by the resort. I find that hard to believe given the pics and accounts from online sources. Anyway I sought reimbursement from our third party supplier and was refunded.
He also said that the ME Resort (their sister resort) sustained some damage and was expected to reopen on 10/15.
Hope that helps anyone who is interested.
Ercilia
Andrea, THANK YOU for sharing information here with everybody else! 🙂 Hope to see you in Los Cabos in the future when things settle down a bit.
Susan Milano
Can you tell us the damage sustained at Cabo Villas Beach and Spa Resort. We are owners of the beachfront building, which I’m sure sustained a lot of damage.
Robert Trama
Hello Susan, unfortunately we’ve yet to receive a damage report from Cabo Villas Beach Resort but hopefully somebody can contribute here further if they’ve heard!
Ercilia
Just posted an update from Cabo Villas Beach Resort!
Jennica
Hi! I was wondering if there are any updates on Hacienda Encantada. I am scheduled to arrive on October 5th and just trying to figure everything out. Anything will help!

Ercilia
GRACIAS Devon! We did see a press release as well that indicated commercial flights could possibly begin as early as 10 days at SJD (linked above). Thank you for sharing!
Buddy Gilmore
Cabo Villas posted a picture on Facebook 20 minutes ago. Looks like nothing happened – in fact, they have lounge chairs around the pool. The picture is date 18 September. The accompanying text speaks to the amazing cleanup efforts.
Ercilia
Love it! We’re updating our blog now.
Ryan
Hello Ercilia,
Thank you for providing the updates. This seems to be the best source of information for updates and you are doing a most excellent job.
I see that many are seeking refunds for their vacation travel and I don’t know if you would have any advice as to when people should consider doing that.
We are scheduled to visit Vila Del Arco in October (27 – 30) and I really don’t want to cancel the trip. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We’d still love to come visit because we know that the beauty of Cabo and it’s people will shine through any mess left behind by this event. And we can even lend a hand if needed ;’)
Ercilia
Hi Ryan, thanks so much for your kind and positive words! Los Cabos is truly an amazing destination. We’re doing our best! Our best advice is to get in touch with the party through which you booked your reservation, as policies differ on a case-by-case basis. If you booked your reservation through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us ASAP to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another tour provider or the resort directly, please contact them to discuss your travel plans. Good luck!
Vickie Berendse
Any updates from Sandos Finisterra? We have reservations for Oct. 27 to Nov. 3. Saw that the Solmar/Playa Grande beach is closed until Oct. 22. Any pictures available of the damage to Finisterra? Thank you for any information.
Ercilia
Vickie – JUST posted an update from Sandos. Perry Sherk
Any info on Club Cascasdas? I see Pueblo Bonito mentioned and Villa del Palmar with some damage.
Thanks
Ercilia
Hi Perry, we don’t work directly with Club Cascadas but I did just see they posted an update on their website.
Radoslaw Lewandowski
What about Pancho the sea lion and all his buddies?? Any 1 see if they made it through as well ??
Ercilia
🙂 I think this is by far my favorite comment. Save Pancho! My hunch is that Pancho is too tough to let a hurricane keep him down for long.
howard
Erica,
Do you know if Baja Cantina and The office survived the hurricane?
Robert Trama
Hello Howard, we have yet to receive any word regarding the restaurants on Médano Beach yet. We will update the blog once we receive word.
Joel
Thank you Ercilia for all you are doing. My thoughts and best wishes are for everyone in the area.
Debbie
Pictures show the marinas trashed. Is there any report when the pongas and small cruisers will be going out again
Julie Hites
Feeling so helpless being so far away. Thank you for your updates, your blog is the best ‘go to’ out there right now. I am feeling so sad for the locals who have lost everything and don’t have the means to recover as we do as Americans. I’m thinking of getting as many friends and family members together to take a trip to Cabo in November. We should spend, spend, spend, shop, eat, play and help get the village of Cabo San Lucas back on it’s feet. Show them we are still there.
Ercilia
LOVE this message, Julie. Yes, Los Cabos will welcome you with open arms. Hearing positive things this morning about recovery, but Los Cabos could use all the help it can get to get this BEAUTIFUL destination back up and running – better than ever!
Julie Trujillo
I completely agree Julie 🙂 My friends and family plan to do the same thing-real soon!
We love Cabo and all the wonderful people there!
Nicole
agreed!!!
Mary Ann Meisenbach
I couldn’t agree more! We were scheduled to have a family reunion with 21 of us at the Melia Cabo Real beginning Oct 28… We already know that we will most likely not be able to stay there but hope to find 11 rooms at another Cabo resort! We hope to keep our trip planned and help Cabo recover also!
Nikkia What
Any update on Villa Christina?
Ercilia
No update yet but our local team is still assessing the full extent of the damage.
toby copeland
Hello Nikkia,
I am the owner of Villa Cristina and fortunately there was minimal damage. So the villa will be ready once power and water are restored to Cabo.
Ercilia
Thanks for posting the update here, Toby! Looking forward to welcoming more of our guests to your lovely villa! 🙂
Nikkia What
Thanks for this update Tony! Today we rescheduled our stay at your villa for the end of November because SJD will still to be closed during our original travel dates. Our family is keeping you all in our prayers during the relief efforts and look forward to our first trip to Cabo!
Jason
Did anyone see or here reports on Puerto cabo village. We own a condo there.
Ercilia
We have not, Jason – but hopefully somebody can update here if they’ve heard or seen anything. Good luck!
Shelley Sigholtz
My 6 friends were at the Rui Palace in Cabo. They were transfered to the airport and airlifted to Dallas, Tx last night. They are all safe. Thank you American Airlines!
Ercilia
So great to hear that they are making their way home! 🙂 Los Cabos looks forward to welcoming them back when things settle down!
Kayla
I was wondering if you could give me an update on the damage to the Riu Palace. Will they be up and running by the 9th in your opinion. Do you think we should try and cancel?
Ercilia
Hi Kayla, we haven’t received any further updates beyond what we’ve posted so far, but we’ll continue to monitor and will update as soon as we know more about the Riu properties’ reopening date. If you booked your reservation through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us ASAP to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another tour provider or the resort directly, please contact them to discuss.
Lori Whitesell
Our care taker and friend made it to Pedregal yesterday. Some places are severely damaged. Others, not as much. We did better than expected. Lost our palapa, one window, all trees and house flooded. The security is tight in this neighborhood, so for that we are grateful. We hear that shuttles to the airport are book solid so getting out is a challenge and water and electricity have not been restored in Pedregal. But, interestingly, land lines are working! Thanks so much for this blog. It has been our lifeline these past days.
Ercilia
Lori, thanks so much for the report! We are getting some very positive and promising updates about the recovery efforts this morning. Together, we will rebuild and be better than ever!
Julie Stabile
Any information on Marina Fiesta?
Ercilia
Nothing further yet, but we’ll update as we know more.
Siggy
Hey Ercillia….
Have you heard anything else what is posted on Publeo Bonito Sunset?
Ercilia
Nothing further yet, but we’ll update as we know more.
Robert Brabham
First and foremost, our thoughts are with the folks who reside in Cabo. I can’t imagine what you’re going through, but I know you’ll endure. More people than you know care!
Secondly, I want to thank Cabovillas and Ercllia for all their efforts to keep folks informed on this site. It has to be a full time endeavour and I appreciate your efforts! I have never used cabovillas, but your information has helped us all. Thank you!
Ercilia
Thank you Robert, your words are so appreciated!
Nicole
Couldn’t agree more, Robert. The updates have been so helpful!! My heart goes out to the people of Cabo. Such a special place with people who we consider family. <3

I was in cabo when hurricane marty hit and was amazed how fast everyone work to get everything put back together is this going to be harder then that do you think
Ricky
Did anyone see or hear reports on Mykonos Bay Resort? We’re booked for October/November and would like to know whether we should postpone our reservation or it’s safe to stay there.
Ercilia
We haven’t, Ricky as we don’t work with them directly. However, maybe somebody will see your post and comment. Good luck! You should definitely contact the party through which you booked in order to discuss your reservation.
Lisa
I have heard from one of the property managers at Mykonos that many units were very damaged although I do not know the extent of those damages. Best to check with who you booked with.
Josh
Ericilia,
Do you have any information on Sunset Da Mona Lisa or Cabo Eco Cat?
Thanks,
Robert Trama
Hello Josh, we still have yet to receive any reports regarding Sunset Da Mona Lisa and Cabo Eco Cat. We’ll post as soon as we hear something.
Steph
I came across your blog while browsing, Your updates on Cabo are great, but I was wondering if there is any way of getting information on the local residents. Not to be mean , but hardly anybody is talking of them… I have someone very dear to us who is currently employed at the Hilton and we have not heard from him since the Hurricane hit land. We have tried the red cross in cabo, called every number we have and no news. We can’t even get a flight out to cabo until the 27th. If anybody knows how to get any information on local San Jose del Cabo residents please let me know. His name is Juan Alvarez Chavez ( employed at the Hilton carretera transpeninsular ( He is my Father and I am very worried about him)
Thank you
Steph

Robert Trama
Hello Steph, we are sorry to hear that you haven’t been able to get in touch with your father. Have you tried posting or sending a message to the Hilton Los Cabos Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/HiltonLosCabos There are also several other Facebook pages that have been recently set up by locals. This one has a lot of members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/727074667339978/ Perhaps somebody following that page knows something.
dan keith
hi,
we have a wedding planned at Riu Santa Fe for November of 2015. Do you think it is still safe to plan our wedding from this far out? I know mexico has had hurricanes before but im not aware of how long clean up times typically take in these regions. Would it still be a safe bet for us to still plan on coming to Cabo for NOV 2015? Will the town be back up and running and rebulit by then?
Ercilia
Hi Dan, your wedding is very far out, you’ll probably be fine. Please discuss your concerns with the party through which you’ve booked your event in a few months to discuss the status.
Andrea
American Airlines is allowing pe0ple who have tickets to/from/through Cabo between now and Dec 15, to CHANGE their tickets without a change fee. New origin and destinations are OK. Change Fee waived. If you booked through a third party, call them to change tickets. If you call American and they do it, they will charge you a $25 per ticket 3rd party service charge!
Ashley
Thank you so much for updating this blog, it is the best information I have been able to find. Cabo is near and dear to us, such a terrible thing to have happen to such wonderful people.
Do you happen to have any details on how the housing community / beach area of Cabo bello made out?
Ercilia
Hi Ashley, I don’t have any information directly about that area yet but hopefully somebody here will see your post and be able to clarify further!
Lori Garcia
Bravo for this comprehensive updated information. Used to enjoy working with Don (founder) of ESS in the ‘early’ days .. we are still doing our thing and grateful to God for no loss of life/limb .. we are proud of the people of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Todos Santos, La Ribera, Los Barriles, East Cape, Elias Calles, Pescadero (don’t want to leave any area out!!!)
“CABO FUERTE” will repair and rebuild and be better than ever.
Ercilia
Lori, thanks so much for your kind words. Because we’ve specialized in Los Cabos for over 25 years, our roots run deep in this wonderful community. Cabo Fuerte, indeed. Los Cabos will be better than ever!
Matt smith
Take the ferry from La Paz to topolobampo and fly out of Los mochis to Mexico City. For the people stuck in cabo or LA Paz please get the word out this is the fastest way to get out. We fly out in the morning. We have asked that this information be released on the weather channel or other outlets but to no avail. It is a long but simple trip and the airlines have not charged extra for the reroute. It is a $78 dollar ride with a free meal if you show your ticket. Just don’t be last to dinner. I hope all Americans get out safely but the ferry we took yesterday was not even close to full.
Andrea
Our prayers go out to all of the families who have lost their homes. The Red Cross is ready to help as soon as flights can land. Americans do want to help so please ask for their assistance and they will come!! Are the roads still flooded and how is food getting to the resorts? Please tell us what we can do now to help re-build Cabo.
La familia Cabo.
Ercilia
Hola Andrea, thanks for your comment, hopefully somebody here can contribute more toward the local relief efforts. We do have a link in our blog for one place to donate.
Edie
Any word on Terrasol beach resort ?
Ercilia
Hola, Edie – we don’t work directly with Terrasol, so we don’t have an update from them. However, hopefully somebody will view your post here and be able to comment further.

Steph, I have a friend who works at the Hilton and she said they have a generator being used during the day. I have been communicating with her on facebook. She said, half of the Hilton was destroyed and probably will not reopen until mid December. I will give her your Dad’s name and if she knows him, help him to contact you. Hope you hear from him soon.
Eddie Gonzalez
Just a quick comment. I received a call today from Cabo Villas Beach Resort and they told me that they will be open Sept 27th. I told them that’s great but the airlines will not start flying in til Oct 1st. We had reservations for the Sept 27th – Oct 4th. She couldn’t answer when I told her that. Maybe its a way for them to keep our money because they can say they were open to accept our visit but no airlines to get us there.
Ercilia
Hi Eddie, there is still some ambiguity as to exactly when SJD will be open again to commercial flights. The last press release from the organization that runs the airport (linked in this blog) said “10 days” but we will continue to monitor for updates.
Sarah
Is there any word on when flights out will begin for residents? So you know if the road to La Paz is open and safe to drive on?
Ercilia
I don’t have word on flights for residents, but it does sound like La Paz airport will be fully operable before SJD. We’ve had several staff members make the drive a few times already this week from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz.

Has anyone heard from or knows about Casa Natalia or El Encanto Inn in San Jose?
Ruthie
Any news about Las Residencias Golf & Beach Club?
Robert Trama
Hello Ruthie, we don’t represent Las Residencias Golf & Beach Club. Perhaps somebody else has an update…
ilona
Does anyone have any more information on the barcelo grand faro? I am supposed to be getting married there on January 14th. Should I look into a change of plans or will 3.5 months be enough to get things back up and going?
Robert Trama
Hello Ilona, we received word on Sept 15 that all hotels guests were safe and secure. However, we are still awaiting official word on the condition of the hotel. We will update as soon as we hear something.
MIke
Been to Cabo many times and it’s one of our favorite places. It’s truly heartbreaking to see the devastation and to know that so many people have lost so much. I wanted to add my voice of thanks for all the work you’ve done to help keep people updated. As others have mentioned it has been surprisingly difficult to find much news about this tragedy, especially in the hours and days just after the storm. So, please know that your posts and updates have been extremely helpful to a lot of people. Outstanding work. Good luck and Godspeed to everyone there in these coming days. We are contributing to the relief fund and as soon as Cabo is open for business we’ll plan to return.
Robert Trama
Hello Mike, thanks for your kind words!!! we’re happy that our blog has proven to be of help. 🙂
Nikki Lamontagne
Thank you for all the information. This is by far the most helpful information that I have found.
Do you have any news on Marina Sol Condos?
Thank you
Robert Trama
Hello Nikki, we don’t represent Marina Sol Condos. Perhaps somebody else has an update…
Dennis
Hello Ercilla,
Thank you very much for your hard work and efforts to keep communications open for the guest and resorts. I know this can be difficult to determine at this time, but my wife and I have reservations November 12-18 for Sandos Finisterra.
I noticed that you recommended to another person with a reservation for Sandos Finisterra for late October to early November to check with the travel booking agency to discuss their reservation. Based on my stay dates of November 12-18 should I try to change my reservation? I booked through Expedia.com .
Thank you in advance.
Dennis
Robert Trama
Hello Dennis, have you tried calling Sandos? Unfortunately their website has yet to post any Odile-related information. However, they have been updating their Facebook page frequently. At this time, they have yet to list an estimated re-open date but they are requesting that those with future reservations contact them via private Facebook message or via email. Their email is reservations2@vacstore.net. I hope this helps.
Dennis
Hello Robert,
I actually did call the Sandoz USA phone number. The current update is that they have pushed the expected opening date from October 1st to November 1st. The one thing missing in this equation is that there is no photos for someone like us to gauge the extent of damage, which also ties to the confidence of the opening date of November 1st.
My reservation begins on November 12th and they thought it might be a good idea to check with them again starting the middle of October to see if they are still tracking for the same opening date.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. For the sake of the staff there, I hope things get back to normal soon for them.
Thank you.
Kathy
Does anyone have any information on extent of the damages at The Grand Regina – (next to the Westin ) we are traveling there the first week of December.
Robert Trama
Hello Kathy, we don’t represent The Grand Regina. Maybe somebody else reading our blog knows something…
Doug Brow
Can you give us an update on the state of the Bel Air hotel, San Jose Del Cabo, we have time share for November 1st, do you think things will be back to normal before then? Let us know what you think. thx Doug Brow
Robert Trama
Hello Doug, the last official word we received from Bel Air Los Cabos on September 17th, stated that they were still assessing the overall state of the destination and their resort. Unfortunately they do not mention timeshares. They are offering guests with reservations (up to October 30th) the option to book stay at an alternate destination, penalty free cancelations, or the option to change their dates for Cabo. I hope this helps.

Any information regarding the Coral Baja or the El Zalate in San Jose.
Robert Trama
Hello Larry, we don’t represent Coral Baja or the El Zalate. Perhaps somebody else has an update. I did check their facebook page. They have a few pics up.
Ingrid Araiza
Hello, can you give me an update of what Sandos Finisterra is planning on October? I know that it is closed till October 1st but when will they reopen?
Thank you.
BillF
Here’s information on the Me Cabo that you can use to update your site.
I just called Melia reservations to confirm my December 2014 reservation and was advised the ME Cabo will be closed until January 31, 2015. The representative explained the hotel has significant damage and the beach is gone. Though my reservation is non-refundable, they did of course cancel it. I then called US Air who advised they are waiving the $200 per ticket change fee. Just tell them where I want to fly instead and they will put me on that flight (of course paying a fare difference if there is one).
Chrystal
Any word on the El Encanto Inn in San Jose?
Perica Bell
Hi Chrystal,
I was supposed to have a wedding at El Encanto on 10/11/14. We have been trying to contact the owner, as well as my planner, but no luck so far- the owners have not picked up our calls to their personal cell phones either. We found someone who indicated that they had a way of getting in contact; I will let you know if I hear anything. I had guests staying there and at Casa Natalia, and neither venues have been able to respond to queries; a bit frustrating but also understandable during these times.
Karen Griffin
Any news on the Pedregal ? Is anyone able to get up there yet ? How about the guard shack ? Is it still standing ?
Ercilia
Hi Karen, we’re still assessing the condition of our villas – so far, some had some minimal damage while others weathered the storm in excellent shape.
Miriam and Scott Grice
Thank you for all the great information. We know this is a trying time for those who live and work in San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
We have reservations for Casa Natalia for 10/1/14 through 10/4/14. Do you have any information on the resort. We also had reservations Hacienda Encantada , they are closed during the dates of our stay and we were able to cancel. We cannot get hold of Nathalie Tenoux or the anyone at Casa Natalia despite emails, Facebook postings and phone calls. We know they have internet connection because of the Facebook postings. We need to reschedule flights if they are closed (we are to arrive 10/1/14) but cannot do this until we hear from Casa Natalia. Thank you in advance for your help.
Ercilia
Hi there Miriam, we too are awaiting an update from Casa Natalia and have not yet heard back. We will of course update here once we hear definitively from them.
Chrystal
Can you please look into the El Encanto Inn I have had no luck contacting them.
Ercilia
Hi Chrystal, we don’t have an update on El Encanto unfortunately at this time.
Lidia
I just read the update posted today regarding the airport not reopening until at least October 8th. This is not good news for the resorts working to reopen by Oct 1st. We are secluded to arrive at the Villa Del Palmar on Oct 10th. I suspect we should seriously look into rescheduling. We are sad….
Lidia
We were also notified today that American and US Airways have cancelled all their flights to SJD thru October 17th.
Christie
Hi, Can you tell me where this Hilton update came from? I do not see it on their website or facebook page. Thank you! Excellent resource here. I have really appreciated it.
Update 9/22/14 – We are not taking any additional reservations from now until January 20, 2015. As of the reservations between now and December 19th, they must be cancelled. Those reservations between December 20th and January 20th remain the same.
Ercilia
Hi Christie, this was actually sent directly to us as we partner with them. However, we’ll continue to update this blog as we hear more. If you have a reservation and booked it through us (Earth, Sea & Sky Vacations / CaboVillas.com), please contact us ASAP to discuss your reservation at 1-855-745-2226. If you booked through another tour provider or the resort directly, please contact them to discuss.
Christie
Thanks so much for the reply Ercilia.
We did not book through you. Unfortunately. As I am finding this as a better resource than any of the hotel call centres. Any future trips to Cabo and you will for sure be top of mind after this.
I am have a wedding planned at Las Ventanas on January 9 and all our guests, including myself are flying in from Australia. The majority staying at the Hilton. The Hilton call centre is a nightmare and has no idea what is happening so I appreciate you passing along details, like the possibility that they are keeping reservations from Dec 20-Jan 20. It’s helping a anxious bride stay optimistic. So sincere thanks!
Ercilia
Hi Christie! From everything we’re seeing, the cleanup efforts following the storm are proceeding extremely rapidly! We’re excited about the progress we’ve seen already and it’s been less than 2 weeks! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and, of course, we’d love to help you with any future plans!
Christie
Hi again. Thanks for you kind reply.
Just FYI all reservations at the Hilton have officially been cancelled up until Jan 15.
All my guests received the communication today and can log in and see their reservations from Jan 5-11 have been officially cancelled. So the December 20th and January 20th reservations have not remained the same.
If anyone has any recommendations for a similar hotel experience in Cabo to the Hilton it would really help me in getting back to my wedding guests. Thanks!
Ercilia
Hi Christie – Thanks for updating here. If you’re not already working with a travel professional, please call our team and perhaps we can help rebook them. If you are working with one currently, they might be able to redirect you to another good property in the area. There are several in the Corridor area nearby that are projected to reopen in November, however most are all-inclusives.
jane aprile
Good day,
I would like to know if MISIONES on the beach and the Mona Lisa Restaurant are open for business.
Thank you,
Jane
Ercilia
The last update we see from Sunset da Mona Lisa on their Facebook fan page states that “we are working hard to clean and raise up our second home, our beloved Sunset Da Mona Lisa Restaurant.”
Jeff Diem
This has been the most information to keep distant members up to date that I have come across. Prayers and best wishes to those that keep our home away from home going. Hope they all have time to get theirs in order also. Still checking in each day so thanks for the updates. Got plans for a later return.
Jessica
First off, so sad about all of the damages and loss from the hurricane 🙁 I feel a little selfish posting about a vacation when there are still many suffering from the storm. With that said, I’m supposed to be leaving on the 14th to come out. My parents think I’m crazy and should re-think. I’m supposed to stay at the Pueblo Bonito Rose… are the beaches clean and safe for swimming? They’re worried about me getting sick from unhealthy conditions either at the hotel or on the beach / in the ocean. Fair concern I’d say. Also, are any of the clubs other than Nowhere Bar open? That’s part of the fun of vacation… curious if any of the night life has started back up. What about restaurants in town.. were many damaged or should we be able to find plenty of places to eat? Thanks for any feedback… continually sending prayers!!
Ercilia
Hi Jessica, many nightclubs, restaurants and shops have reopened and members of our team and friends of ours have been on the beach at Médano regularly in the last week and have reported the water is beautiful. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by all of the rapid progress. Los cabos looks forward to welcoming you!
Sharon Teipen
We are due at Montecristo Estates Pueblo Bonito in 10 days. Can you tell me if the houses are ready for guests? Thank you
Ercilia
Hi Sharon, we don’t work with Montecristo Estates directly so we don’t have an update on the homes. You might want to check with them directly. Good luck! Los Cabos looks forward to welcoming you.
RISE CROWL
We are headed to Cabo the end of January and understand that the Solmar has reopened. Have the businesses/restaurants been able to receive the help they need to get back up and running. We were wondering if you had any info about our dear friend Maro and his family (Maro’s Shrimp House). Our hearts go out to our many friends in Cabo. We plan on returning January!
Ercilia
Maro’s is open! Los Cabos looks forward to welcoming you back.
